 IGA Awards of Excellence Perspective

IGA Names 2008
U.S. Retailers of the Year

A message from…
Mark Batenic
Chairman, President and CEO
IGA USA

Today it is my great pleasure to inform you that after a careful and detailed selection process that included an in-person store evaluation conducted by IGA V.P. Doug Fritsch and myself, we have narrowed our list of eight finalists to three 2008 IGA U.S. Retailers of the Year.

As you have heard, the Awards of Excellence Program criteria was revised to raise the bar on recognition standards, making this an especially prestigious title to hold in 2008. We will honor our 2008 IGA U.S. Retailers of the Year at our Awards Banquet, held on March 29 of this year at our Global Summit in Carefree, Arizona. That night we will also reveal which of the three has achieved exemplary excellence under IGA's globally applied standards and will be awarded the additional title of IGA U.S. International Retailer of the Year.

Our 2008 IGA U.S. Retailers of the Year are:

Mike Carper, Mick or Mack IGA, Newcastle, Va. - Merchants Distributors, Inc.

Tim Henderson, Henderson's IGA, Valentine, Neb. - Affiliated Foods Midwest

Gregory Lukeman, IGA Bohemia - Four M Food, Bohemia, N.Y. - Bozzuto's, Inc.

Visiting these retailers' award-winning stores has been one of the highlights of my time here at IGA, and I can now say with certainty that these three are among the best retailers in the industry. They have provided the highest measure of success for IGA Retailers across the U.S. and around the world, proving once again that IGA is re-energized and on the move.

Look to this column in coming weeks to learn more about the "best practices" of each of our 2008 U.S. Retailers of the Year, as well as those of our other five finalists.

Thanks,

Mark Batenic

During the Awards Banquet we will also honor the International Retailers of the Year chosen from our global companies. IGA Global CEO Dr. Tom Haggai will share more about these retailers next week.
